Our Struggle to Conceive

It all started in the summer of 2002 when we were very unsuccessful at the one thing we longed for ~ a baby! We decided that it was time to find out "why?" were we not succeeding. We found out we had a fertility problem and would have to bypass all the simplier and less expensive ways for fertility problems and go right to the most expensive... Invitro Fertilization. The term made me think of test tube baby!

So we mulled and moaned over it for a short while and with age creeping up fast, we decided to dive right into it... not knowing the emotional and financial impact ahead of us.

We started the first cycle in September of 2002. When I took home the materials, I wept cause I found out I had to get shots, give myself shots and endure so much. We had our procedure done on Halloween, of all times. Two weeks later we had a positive pregnancy test, with a very low number (nothing I understood at the time). Then we were told it might not be a viable pregnancy.... ugh! I had to endure blood test every other day for about two weeks. We were told for Thanksgiving to rest and stay home over the weekend and test one more time on Monday... what a trying weekend we had. It ended up negative.. however, something was giving a little bit of the hormone... so we had to wait longer and do a sonogram. With a bit of hope and knowing my God is good, I waited faithfully. We did the sono and nothing showed up. Then we had to do a shot that would remove anything, fetal tissue sometimes can attach with nothing there.

As you can imagine, it was very painful, stressful and disappointing. We didn't know what we would do next. We had just spent appoximately $10,000 to $12,000 for nothing.

We said we would wait and maybe try again later. We had to meet with the physician to determine a different option.

We met with him in February 2003. He said he wanted to take a step back and try the old way of fertility treatment. If we had at least three grade A embryos, he wanted to do a day 3 transfer with 3 embryos. It sounded crazy to me... but I trusted him. He is a smart physician and I highly respect him.

So we endured the summer... mothers day... the anxiety attacks, being put on meds, then finding out I couldn't take them. I was very depressed and overwhelmed.

We went to a new founded place called Destin, Florida. I truely believe that God used that time to heal and restore my spirit, my faith in Him. We went right before we started the second and last cycle.

We started the cycle in July 2003. The whole process takes about 6 or 8 weeks. So long. When we arrived for the actual transer on August 31, 2003, I was given my prized picture of the embryos... three to be exact! I was floored... three, triplets, quads, sextuplets... all ran through my mind. As I was wheeled into the room, Dr. R quoted me the statistics... triplets were 4%, twins 33% and one, 88%... so I was a little comforted. I took the whole week off to rest, put my feet up and relax and let those guys implant (I don't know if this works, but I say it does). On Septemeber 11, 2003... I was told I was most definately pregnant... on September 29, 2003... TWINS. On December 16, boy twins, possibly fraternal. And you know the rest of the story! God is Good all the time!
